Ablution Facilities

The Community Centre aims to provide basic facilities at a low cost, primarily for use by campers and visitors utilizing the Centre’s facilities. It is a convenient stop for travelers exploring the West Coast, especially those doing the Paparoa Track. Ablution Block is open from 9a.m to 9pm and a toilet room is available after these times at side of building.

It’s worth noting that the building itself has a history of extensions, with a laundry and drying facilities added in the early 1950s when it was used as a miners’ hostel. This highlights the long-standing provision of these essential services at the site.

Laundry and Shower Facilities:

  • Showers: Takes $2 coin for a five-minute shower. If you require a longer shower you can insert more coins.
  • Washing Machine: Takes 2 x $2 coins. (only cold wash available) (Please do not overload)
  • Dryer: Takes 3 x $2 coins 45 minutes. (Please do not overload or your washing will not dry. Do not change settings on dryer.)

Here’s what you can expect from the ablution block at the Blackball Community Centre:

  • Toilets: Public toilets are available.
  • Showers: Shower is available from 9am to 9pm.
  • There is shower and toilet facilities located at the playground a few metres down Hilton Street. The showers operate with a Kiwi Camp payment system. This means you’ll need to purchase a $5 pre-purchased fob to access the showers, and then it costs $2 for 5 minutes of shower time. The “Famous Blackball Hilton” (a pub in Blackball) is noted as a supplier of these fobs.

For the most up-to-date information on the functionality and any changes to the ablution block, especially regarding the shower payment system, it’s always best to check with the Blackball Community Centre directly upon arrival or contact them in advance.
